The Twilight Saga: New Moon is a 2009 American romantic fantasy vampire film based on Stephenie Meyer’s 2006 novel New Moon. It is the second film in The Twilight Saga film series and is the sequel to 2008’s Twilight. Summit Entertainment greenlit the sequel in late November 2008, following the early success of Twilight. Directed by Chris Weitz, the film stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner, reprising their roles as Bella Swan, Edward Cullen, and Jacob Black respectively. Melissa Rosenberg again wrote the script for New Moon.

Set during Bella’s 18th birthday, the Cullens gather together to celebrate in Bella’s backyard; instead of enjoying herself, Bella sadly contemplates her upcoming decade as a human without experiencing true love and happiness. While unwrapping a present, she gets a paper cut which causes Edward to fear for her safety. In an effort to protect her from future danger, he convinces his family to leave Forks permanently and go back into seclusion. Heartbroken over their separation as well as unable to see or communicate with Edward, Bella spends much of her time with Jacob Black, an old childhood friend of hers who has suddenly begun showing interest in her; this fills the hole that was left by Edward’s departure. Jacob eventually reveals that he can phase into a giant wolf at will; this ability runs in his Native American tribe as a result of a curse placed on them by one of their enemies many years ago. As news about missed murders and other brutal attacks begin circulating, it becomes apparent that someone or something is deliberately targeting human beings..

Bella comes to realize that it is not safe for her anywhere and decides that she must see Edward one last time to say goodbye properly. Accompanied by Jacob, she travels back into Quileute territory where she meets with Edward and his family once again; however, this reunion is far from pleasant as members of the Cullen family are vehemently opposed to Bella associating with them again due to the threat she poses to their secrecy and existence. Things quickly escalate when members of the local werewolf pack show up demanding revenge for injuries they claim were inflicted upon them by vampires; a battle ensues in which numerous wolves are killed and two vampires are also fatally wounded..
